Ingredients:

  • 18 oz wheat flour

  • 4oz lard or butter

  • 7oz warm water

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 red bell peppers, chopped

  • 18 oz ground beef

  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • Nativo Spices Rosemary Sea Salt to taste

  • Pepper to taste

  • Oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour with the lard or butter until well combined.

  2. Gradually add the warm water and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

  4. In a skillet, heat some oil and sauté the onion and red bell peppers until soft.

  5. Add the ground beef and cook until browned.

  6. Add the chopped eggs, cumin, Rosemary Sea Salt, and pepper, and stir well

  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

  8. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.

  9. Using a large cookie cutter or a bowl, cut out circles of dough.

  10. Spoon some of the beef filling onto one half of each circle.

  11. Fold the other half of the circle over the filling and press the edges together to seal. Using a fork, crimp the edges of each empanada.

  12. Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  13. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
